Ce film décrit les avantages du coupage oxyacétilénique. La découverte de l'oxygène remonte à l'an 1774, quand Priestley, un clergyman anglais, constata un dégagement de gaz alors qu'il décomposa l'oxyde de mercure par la chaleur. Lavoisier, et plus tard Fletcher, découvrirent la propriété inflammable de ce gaz et l'appliquèrent au coupage des métaux. Cette opération qui se faisait autrefois avec une simple scie devint par la suite beaucoup plus facile grâce à la torche oxyacétilénique. Le jet peut trancher une plaque métallique allant jusqu'à 2 mètres d'épaisseur. Durant la guerre, on se servit de ce procédé sur une très haute échelle dans la production d'obus, de pistolets, de mitrailleuses et de quantité de pièces mécaniques. Aujourd'hui l'oxycoupage est un facteur très important dans la production industrielle, car il sauve un temps énorme aux usines métallurgiques. L'oxygène préparé dans des laboratoires modernes est une sève généreuse et indispensable à toute notre industrie canadienne. <26mn>
