Documentary on telephone workers. Selected workers talk about what they would like to see in a film about their line of work. Sequences on: pole climbing school; the installation of a telephone system in an airport; and on the activities at a test bureau. Linemen are shown at work. Engineers labour in Planning and operators mind their switchboards for national and internationals calls. Technicians oversee the transmission of telephone signals.~A few telephone workers voice their concerns with regard to opportunities for advancement. The camera then focuses on information operators and supervisors who have been promoted from lower positions.~The camera goes on to show activities in the research and development sections of Bell Laboratories and the manufacture of telephone equipment at Western Electric. A crew demonstrates highlights in the sequence of steps to follow in setting up service for new customers. Another group works on telephone directories and Yellow Pages.~The final sequences show how complaints are settled and touch on the work involved in accounting and billing. <27mn>
