Zummach talks about her German ancestors who emigrated from Germany and settled in the Valley in 1868. Also described is the one-room school she attended and first learned English, the Baptist church built by the German community which was the centre of the social life of the community, and the strict religious upbringing of her brothers and sisters. Other topics include their nearby Irish neighbours, the hard work on the family farm where the children assisted in clearing the rocks from the fields, tending the gardens and helping preserve the fruits, sauerkraut and barrels of pork for the winter. To conclude, Zummack recalls the local doctor who practised homeopathic medicine and cured her sister of a serious childhood disease.Language:EnglishNotes: -
