A collection in three parts of Alexander Clark Casselman's edited publication of John Richardson's War of 1812 which has been grangerized (that is, has had 206 illustrations added) by Alfred Sandham.. Included are portraits of most of the major personalities of the War of 1812 and the Napoleonic Wars; maps of the battlefields; autographs of many of the participants; views of historical events and cities in Canada and the United States; and other related material.
The original publication of John Richardson's War of 1812 appeared in the 1840s. This edition was limited to 1000 copies of which this is 129. The original one volume edition was grangerized by Alfred Sandham, and came to the National Archives in three parts, which were subsequently rebound and conserved in 1984-1985. The collection now includes one volume of text with a number of bound-in illustrations and maps, and two containers of illustrations as described above..
The publication was formerly catalogued by the Public Archives Library as PIC E354 R53..
There are 3 engravings, 19 etchings, 5 lithographs, 55 wood engravings, 32 photogravures, 41 heliogravures, and 1 photolithograph among the prints and reproductions..
