Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Health Insurance and Resources Branch. Volumes 1730-1745 contain analysis and reports on health care systems in Alberta, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Volumes 1364-1382 contain studies of hospital insurance in Canada and a number of foreign countries conducted by the Health Insurance and Resources Branch between 1948 and 1972. Most of these files were created in the office of Dr. R.H. Armstrong, Director of Medical Care, Health Insurance and Resources Branch. These files include a good deal of correspondence with the provinces as well as examinations of their hospital insurance programmes.

Canada. Health Insurance and Resources Branch : The Health Insurance and Resources Branch was established on 1 January 1966 in order to consolidate all of the department's activities concerning the financial and technical support for provincially administered health care programs. In addition to administering the legislation and the funds related to these programs, the Branch provided technical and professional consulting services to provincial governments, hospitals, and various health agencies in the development of measures for improving the quality and reducing the costs of health services. These services were often provided through studies and surveys on such things as the costs of health services and the quality and utilization of trained health manpower.
