Sub-series consists of Task Force on Boxing in Canada records roughly divided into three main sections: files related to the operation of the Task Force (Volumes 2491 and part of 2492), transcripts of the hearings and briefs (Volumes 2492 to 2494), and records relating to the production of the interim and final reports, including drafts (Volume 2496). Records of note in the first part include copies of extracts from the House of Commons debates leading to the establishment of the Task Force, a copy of the information package prepared for the Force's members by its Secretary, Maurice Murphy, and copies of rules and regulations of various boxing associations. The briefs to the Force cover such subjects as the emergency treatment of injured boxers, the use of headgear, judges and referees, computerization of boxing matches to keep track of fouls/punches and potentially dangerous injuries, and the roles and qualifications of fighters, managers and trainers. Many briefs include news clippings or copies of articles from medical and other sports research journals. Finally, the "Agenda and Documents" in file 87 (volume 2494) includes the terms of reference for the Task Force, suggestions for the report's layout, a plan of action, budget, search of the Sports Information Resource Centre (SIRC)'s database for articles on the subject of boxing injuries (particularly with regards to the head). Some of the documents from the World Boxing Association are in Spanish and English.

Task Force on Boxing in Canada : On 7 May 1980 a boxing match between Canadian boxers Ralph Racine and Gaéten Hart sent Racine to hospital suffering from brain injuries. Just over a month later, a fight on 20 June 1980 between Hart and Cleveland Denny left Denny in hospital in a coma; he died seventeen days later of brain injuries. In response to a public outcry over these two accidents as evidence of the dangers of boxing, on 16 July 1980 the Honourable Gerald Regan, Minister of Labour and Minister responsible for Fitness and Amateur Sport, appointed a federal task force to "investigate all aspects of professional and amateur boxing in Canada, with particular emphasis on injuries and safety measures, and including such areas as medical standards and expertise, training, rules and regulations and record keeping". The Task Force was chaired by Clarence L. Gosse, former Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia, and was charged to report to the Minister by 31 December 1980. The final report was published in January 1981.
