Salmon, Edgar Striguil : Edgar Striguil Salmon was born 13 December 1894 in Cardiff, Wales. Educated in Cardiff, Salmon joined his father's business, the South Wales Rubber Co., in 1909. During the First World War Salmon, a Seaforth Highlander, was stationed in the Middle East, Egypt, Palestine, Mesopotamia and Bombay, India. He was wounded when fighting the Turks. In 1930 Salmon emigrated to Canada aboard the S.S. Minnedosa. Landing in St. John, New Brunswick, Salmon settled in London, Ontario where he became employed in various jobs during the Depression. In 1936 Salmon began working at the O'Brien Gold Mines, Northern Ontario, caring for the bunkhouse. In 1937 he became cook for the surveyor camp. In September 1939 he established a photography business in Cadillac, Quebec. During this time he was also the town fire chief, an occupation that led him in 1943 to the airport at Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec where he was fire chief with Canadian Pacific Airlines who ran an air school for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. In March of 1945 Salmon became Superintendent of the Finlay Home for Old Men and Boys, run by the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Quebec City. Mrs. Salmon acted as matron. While living in Quebec City Salmon acted as Port Chaplain for the Anglican Church, meeting immigrants and helping with any problems they might have. In January of 1945 Salmon and his wife moved to Sioux Lookout, Ontario where he took the position of Principal of Pelican Lake Indian Residential School. While in Sioux Lookout, Salmon began a course of study in theology. In 1956 he was accepted to Huron College, and in May 1957, after one year of study, Salmon became a priest in the Anglican Church. He was stationed in Pelee Island, Ontario. Salmon spent the last years of his life in Simcoe, Ontario. It was while he was in Simcoe that he completed the last exam for the theological title of Scholar of Theology. Salmon died May 1965.
