Sub-series consist of drafts and copies of despatches from the Governor General to the British Minister at Washington. These despatches, arranged chronologically, deal with numerous aspects of international relations between Canada and the United States including regulation of commerce, international boundaries, fisheries disputes, extraditions, immigration, embargo on goods, seizures, Fenian raids and others. A finding aid is available for the years 1886-1909 in the form of registers, volumes 13 to 16.

This sub-series also contains a volume of miscellaneous correspondence, volume 17, from the Governor General to the Lieutenant Governors of Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. The correspondence, arranged chronologically, deals with a variety of issues including light houses and territorial jurisdiction.
