Sub-sub-series consists of letter books maintained in the office of the Governor-in-Chief of the Province of Canada, 1841-1867, to record for reference purposes the texts of numbered and unnumbered (private and confidential) despatches sent to the Colonial Office. Enclosures which would have accompanied the original despatches to London are noted, but their texts are not generally entered into these letter books. A list of the contents noting despatch number, date, dates sent for both despatch and duplicate, subject and page number is found at the beginning of each volume.
