Sub-sub-series consists of drafts of numbered and unnumbered (confidential) despatches to the Secretary of State from the Governors of Quebec and Lower Canada. The text or an abstract of enclosures is included. Some volumes include fair copies of final drafts and not, as is the usual practice, preliminary drafts from which the final copies were made.

Some drafts and copies have been found, separated from the colonial records, in the private papers of certain Governors.
