Sub-series consists of indexes to Dominion Land Patents. The sub-series includes an index to Dominion Land Patents, 1873-1883, (Volume 909) and an index to Dominion Land Patents, Parish Land, Manitoba 1875-1883, (Volume 910). In 1883 the issuing of Dominion Land Patents was transferred from the Registrar's Branch of the Secretary of State to the Department of the Interior. The last patent recorded in the office of the Registrar General is dated 18 July 1883.

The indexes to Dominion Land Patents, (1873-1883, volumes 909 and 910, reels M-1638 to M-1640) contain a nominal listing in alphabetical order of patentees who received Letters Patent for Dominion Lands. Each entry provides the name of the grantee, the date of the patent, the location of the land, the acreage, the reference number, the liber (register) and the folio (page) number where a copy of the relevant land patent may be located. Once the liber is known, one the volume number and the microfilm reel number assigned to it in order to locate a copy of the document. This may be done by using the conversion list which is finding aid 68-2.
