Series consists of sound recordings including radio documentaries, interviews and completed programs representing Elspeth Chisholm's career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and as a free-lance producer. Included are interviews conducted by Chisholm with: Andrew Cowan regarding his life and career in broadcasting; film producer Stanley Hawes and others about documentary filmmaker John Grierson; friends and acquaintances of Alan Jarvis, sculptor and former Director of the National Gallery of Canada; and Hugh Whitney Morrison, Richard Nielsen, Edward Pickering, Marjorie McEnaney, Bernard Trotter, Arthur Stinson, and Ruth Johnson Francis about their careers at the CBC and the history of the CBC, conducted as part of the CBC Oral History Project for the Carleton University Institute of Canadian Studies. Also included are background interviews for radio programs and other miscellaneous items recorded and produced by Elspeth Chisholm while working as a free-lance broadcaster.
Series also consists of interviews with: G.H. Needler; Dr. Laidlaw on Robert Borden; Kathleen Parlow on Andre Laurendeau; Walter J. Turnbull; F. R. Scott on the Quebec Padlock Act; Ernest Bushnell; Helen Creighton, Hugh Whitney Morrison, Andrew Cowan, Alixe Carter and Orville Shugg on the subject of Gladstone Murray; Peter Aylen, René Landry and Murielle Munro; and interviews with various individuals on Harold Adams Innis and Andre Laurendeau.
In addition, series includes a recording of the CBC radio program Encore, September 1975, that looks at The Things We See, a documentary about the career and personality of Jarvis, researched and narrated by Chisholm; an extract from the BBC radio program Sunday Supplement on Grierson, the National Film Board of Canada, and female filmmakers; an excerpt from a radio documentary on Canadian communications theoretician and University professor, Harold Adams Innis; and a video recording of a speech by Dr. Ivan Illich at the Fourth Plenary Session of National Conference of the Law, 3 February 1972.
