This series contains the records of Frontier College's HELP Program which worked with inmates released on probation to improve their literacy. The series is divided loosely into ten blocks: general correspondence and staff files; records of the Brockville and Hamilton branches of the program; statistical files; files from the Cornwall branch; miscellaneous files from various branches; records of the Kingston, Toronto and Winnipeg programs; proposals and funding files; records of Kingston's Literacy for Inmates branch; and files from the Prison Literacy Initiative Project within the HELP Program. Common to most of the blocks are office, coordinator and general correspondence; employment visit charts and evaluations; weekly, monthly, and quarterly statistical reports; program reports and narratives; and fund-raising proposals. The office and coordinator files document the work of staff such as Program Director Bruce Kappel, Executive Coordinator John Wilson, Executive Directors Robert Young and Tom French, Director Tony McGilvary, Institutional director Pat Bastarache, Atlantic Coordinator Martin Kennedy, Prairies Coordinator Larry Mullen, Ontario Coordinator Sheila Round and Jack Pearpoint. There is correspondence with the Ministry of Correctional Services of Canada, Collins Bay Institution, Kingston Penitentiary, Education, Training and Employment Regional Headquarters of Canada, and Lifecycle Learning Resources Inc. In addition, the proposals and funding block holds correspondence, grant applications, and funding agreements with the Gannett Foundation, Donner Canadian Foundation, Trillium Foundation, Howard Johnson Society, the Harold King Foundation, and Employment and Immigration Canada.
