Hamilton Public Library (Ont.) : The original Hamilton Public Library came as a result of the Hamilton library trustees decision to serve residents in the city core by providing reference and circulating services from a central library. The building cornerstone was laid on 1 August 1911 and the Library was officially opened in May 1913. In 1994, following many years of service, the Library experienced large budget cuts. In 2001 the library merged with the former Dundas Public Library and Wentworth Libraries to form a new library system called the Hamilton Public Library. Although the new library system shares the name of one of its predecessor library's, it is not a continuation of any single predecessor. "Amalgamation Reports and Issues: Meeting User Needs."
