La série Dossiers thématiques s'attache principalement aux colloques, congrès et conférences auxquels Jean-Pierre Wallot a participé et au sein desquels il a présenté des communications ou soumis des articles. Cette série témoigne de sa participation active à des événements scientifiques surtout en histoire. Les dossiers de cette série soulignent aussi le rayonnement national et international de Jean-Pierre Wallot en raison de ses liens étroits et soutenus avec la communauté scientifique. Cette série lève le voile sur sa contribution à l'historiographie canadienne, tant par le nombre de ses communications que par la diversité des thèmes abordés et des congrès auxquels il a participé. Sur la scène internationale, il a été particulièrement actif au colloque de Toulouse (1968) sur l'abolition de la féodalité, au colloque international de Paris sur les dîmes (1977), à la 33ième Conférence Internationale de la Table ronde des Archives (CITRA) qui a pour thème "l'Accès à l'information et défis technologiques" à Stockholm (1998). Au Canada, il participe notamment à la conférence Gray (1970) sur la religion au Canada français au début du 19e siècle, au colloque Landon (1977) concernant des perspectives interdisciplinaires sur l'histoire régionale en Ontario, à la conférence en histoire religieuse sur le rôle du laïc dans l'Église au Canada (1970), au colloque Stanley House sur l'histoire urbaine de Québec (1976), au colloque de la Société royale du Canada sur l'évolution des sciences sociales au Québec de 1935 à 1985 (1980), au congrès de l'Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ) "Les archives : un lieu de conservation, de mémoire et d'information" tenu à Aylmer (1997) et au 3ième Symposium du Groupe interdisciplinaire de recherche en archivistique "L'évaluation des archives : des nécessités de la gestion aux exigences du témoignage" tenu à l'Université de Montréal (1998). La contribution personnelle de Jean-Pierre Wallot présentée ici s'échelonne sur plus de 40 ans. De cette manière, les dossiers Communications, Conférences et Articles ne regroupent pas moins de 50 textes qui constituent un apport majeur à l'historiographie canadienne, surtout sur le 19e siècle. Ceci démontre que M. Wallot est resté très actif et lié à la communauté scientifique, même durant les années 1985-1997 où il était Archiviste national du Canada. Dans cette série, on retrouve des documents sur les Archives nationales du Canada et la Bibliothèque nationale du Canada ainsi que sur le projet Patrimoine audiovisuel canadien. Cette série témoigne, entre autres, de la participation de M. Wallot à l'Académie des lettres du Québec, au Centre interuniversitaire d'études québécoises (CIEQ de l'Université Laval) ainsi qu'à de nombreux colloques à l'Université d'Ottawa, notamment au Centre de recherche en civilisation canadienne-française (CRCCF), et plus particulièrement au Colloque international sur le système Atlantique, de même qu'à un projet de télésérie documentaire sur les Français en Amérique. Également, s'y retrouvent des documents sur les colloques France-Québec, sur l'histoire économique, sur l'histoire orale et les archives.
Cette série contient de la correspondance, des textes de communication, des articles, des programmes de congrès et de colloques, des statuts et règlements, des notes personnelles, des rapports, des coupures de presse et une photographie. On y retrouve des originaux, des notes manuscrites, des copies, des imprimés.
