Sub-series consists of files relating to Canada's defence policy and specifically to the government's handling of the Bren Gun contract and the enquiry which resulted from George Drew's original article commissioned by Maclean's Magazine in 1938. Types of material include correspondence, internal memoranda, background files, drafts of articles and completed versions published in Maclean's Magazine and The Financial Post, articles, clippings, debates and correspondence on public reaction, copies of Bren Gun contracts, and evidence presented to the Davis Commission as well as the Commission's final report. Maclean's Magazine memoranda and staff conferences on its approach to the Bren Gun exposé, public reaction, and libel action against The Maclean Publishing Company are also noteworthy.
