Sub-sub-series consists of unnumbered correspondence and documents from the Public Works's docket registry system. It includes correspondence received by the Commissioner of Public Works, J.C. Chapais, and his private secretary, Octave Dionne, concerning various public works matters from 1864 to 1867. The correspondence is arranged chronologically with undated material at the end (Vol. 598).
Also included is correspondence, arranged in subject files, that for the most part concerns claims, petitions, and applications received by the Department from 1834- 1877 (Vols. 599-607). A list of subjects is available.
"Department Papers" consisting of miscellaneous correspondence, petitions, claims, estimates, reports, returns, specifications, and tenders arranged chronologically from 1860-1873 are found in volume 608. Volumes 609-611 contain correspondence, pamphlets, reports, and sketches in four bound volumes on the projected Cedars Canal, 1833-1876. Also included in volume 611 are second and third copies of "Titres, etc.-Propriétés du Gouvernement du Québec et Montréal, 1600-1870," made from original documents collected by G.F. Baillargé at the Évêché de Québec in 1869.
Insurance policies on public buildings and other Public Works's property, 1826-1879, are found in Volume 612. A list of these policies is available.
Volume 613 contains a Record Book of the Schedule of Tenders and Orders to Contractors for the Construction of the Parliament Buildings and Governor-General's Residence, 1860, and a statement of lands required for enlargement of the Lachine Canal, 1876-1877. The latter is indexed.
Volume 614 contains a copy of a return of an Order of the House of Commons, 28 February 1879. The return relates to land damages resulting from the raising of the water level for canal purposes at the Dunville Section of the Welland Canal. Also included are receipts for keys to various rooms in the newly constructed Parliament Buildings, as they were received from the contractors in 1865, and returns for firewood delivered to the Public Buildings, 1865-1866.
Volume 3974 contains monthly return of dues accrued from Ottawa River Slides and Works by A.J. Russell, Collector, 1869-1876; and an Accounts Book for Ottawa River Works, Boom and Slide Dues, 1874-1880 (Vol. 3974). The latter is indexed.
