Fonds consists of productions by or about Alcan Aluminum Limited including sponsored programmes, commercials, documentaries, logos, and stock shots. Subjects include air, rail, and road transport; manufacturing and construction; farming and mining; communications; education; diseases and their prevention; and travel and visits to various Canadian cities. More specifically, productions document Alcan Aluminum operations in Canada and abroad; Alcan's concerns with the environment and the recycling of the earth's resources; Alcan smelters; financial and corporate goals; and employee programs. Titles include: Generator 4; Packaged powder (1951); and Preparing for the next century (1989). Also included are commercials from the 1981 Alcan Foil Advertising Campaign.

Fonds also includes a sound recording for the opening day ceremonies of Maison Alcan in Montreal on 14 September 1983.

Alcan Aluminium Limited : Alcan Aluminium Limited is a multinational enterprise engaged, through subsidiary and related companies, in all major segments of the aluminium business, including bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminium smelting and fabricating. In 1902 the Northern Aluminum Company was incorporated in Shawinigan Falls, Québec, as a Canadian subsidiary of the Aluminum Company of America. In 1925 it became the Aluminium Company of Canada Ltd., undergoing incorporation in 1928. The Alcan trademark was adopted in Canada in 1944 and internationally in 1959. Material in accession 1975-0266 was transferred to the National Archives of Canada in the Canadian Film Institute transfer of April 1975. All other material was acquired between 1969 and 1999 directly from Alcan Aluminum Limited, Montreal, Quebec.
