Collection consists of a film clip documenting Canada's gift of a stage curtain for the Eisenhower Theatre of the J.F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts; and a film clip documenting the presentation of a glass sculpture by the United States to Canada on the occasion of the Canadian centennial. Also included are documentaries on American presidents, namely John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Eisenhower, and documentary films on naval and world peace missions. United States Information Agency : The United States Information Agency (USIA) is an independent foreign affairs agency within the executive branch of the U.S. government. It was established in 1933 as the United States Information Service (USIS), a name now applied to individual offices of the USIA. In 1948, the name was changed from USIS to USIA. Through educational and cultural activities, the agency is able to promote better understanding between the United States and other nations. On 1 October 1999, the USIA was integrated into the Department of State as a result of the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998. The USIA has 190 posts in 142 countries. The agency is informally known overseas as the USIS. In Spanish speaking countries individual

Custodial history:

Some of this material was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975 and September, 1976. The CFI received the material from the United States Information Service between 1962 and 1972. The balance of the material was received by the National Archives directly from the United States Information Service in 1971.
