This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accessions. Sub-series consists of records created or maintained by the Mineral and Metal Commodities Branch and its predecessors.

The Mineral and Metal Commodities Branch acted as the federal government's main source of market-related expertise for mineral and metal commodities, carried out analysis and forecasting; proposed, negotiated, and implemented domestic and international commodity strategies and initiatives; and generally managed commodity-specific issues and programs. The Branch was also responsible for (1) the collection, analysis and dissemination of mineral statistics in Canada, (2) national and international distribution of related mineral industry information, and (3) maintaining a special advisory role to the system of national accounts.

In the early 1990s, the Branch's divisions each used a separate section of the registry system. The Industrial Minerals Division used the MP3 section of the registry; the Coal and Ferrous Division, MP4; the Nonferrous Commodities Division, MP5; and the Mineral and Metal Statistics Division, MP9.

The sub-series consists of records from several defunct registry systems used by the Mineral and Metal Commodities Branch and its predecessors.
