Collection consists of moving images collected by Bill Galloway during his career as a film specialist and archivist. Includes items used for his television series Galloway's gallery, items on hockey, football, golf, boxing and swimming, and documentaries and newsreels on Canadian events. Photographic material consists of a slide presentation (English and French versions), showing the history, techniques and equipment of the following sports: lacrosse, figure skating including basic skating, solo skating, skating in pairs, dancing on skates, and downhill skiing. Photographs are by the National Film Board.

Galloway, William E. "Bill", 1928-1994 : William E. "Bill" Galloway was a film archivist and collector of sports memorabilia. He was born in Cumberland, Ontario in 1928. During the 1940s he played for the Hull Volants hockey team of the Quebec Junior league. He also played for the Sherbrooke Saints of the Quebec Hockey League and competed in the Canadian Open golf tournament. Bill Galloway began working at the National Film Board in Ottawa in 1945 as a summer student. At the NFB he worked in production, research and administration. In 1956 he became the NFB's director of film research and chief of the stock shot library. He also did research for the National Broadcasting Company's television series Victory at Sea. Among his NFB projects was screening and cataloguing the NFB's extensive collection of footage shot by the Canadian forces during the Second World War, for use in the Canada at War film series released by the NFB in 1962 and researching newsreel footage for use in the Donald Brittain documentary Memorandum. In 1969 he moved to the newly-established National Film Archives of Library and Archives Canada and implemented a film acquisition program. During his career at the archives he hosted the local CBC Ottawa television series Galloway's Gallery, a series featuring archival film footage, which was first broadcast in 1980, and Sports Flashback, a series produced by Ottawa television station CJOH in 1979. In the 1970s, Bill Galloway also hosted a weekly radio program called Talking Hockey, broadcast by station WQSA in Sarasota, Florida for Canadians vacationing in Florida, and with Brian McFarlane he co-hosted a Hockey Night in Canada intermission feature about hockey history, also called Galloway's Gallery. Galloway and McFarlane also co-hosted intermission features for the 1950s CBS television network hockey telecast Game of the Week and in the 1970s they were on NBC television broadcasts of NHL games. Bill Galloway retired from Library and Archives Canada in 1982 and died in 1994.
