Fonds consists of biographical material; speeches and lectures; correspondence with individuals, organizations, Ukrainian Canadian community leaders, and general correspondence; material on Ukrainian women's movement, home economics, traditional Ukrainian cookery, Ukrainian community activities; and newsclippings, n.d., 1918-1994.

The fonds also contains an audio recording of a meeting of the Ukrainian Canadian Committee in Winnipeg and a speech by Savella Stechishin to the Ukrainian Women's Association on October 2, 1984.

Stechishin, Savella, 1903-2002 : Journalist, Educator, Community leader.

Savella Stechishin (Wawryniuk) was born on 19 August, 1903 in Tudorkovychi, Sokal County, Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada at nine years of age with her parents who settled on a homestead in Saskatchewan. She was educated at the Normal School in Saskatoon (1924) and was the first Ukrainian women to graduate from the University of Saskatchewan (1930). She became a school teacher and taught Ukrainian classes at the University of Saskatchewan and the Mohyla Ukrainian Institute in Saskatoon.

She married Julian Stechishin and shared in his extensive Ukrainian community work and leadership. She was a founding member and first president (1926-1936) of the Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada (SUK). She was instrumental in the promotion of the presentation of Ukrainian folk art traditions in Canada and the establishment of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada in 1936. For many years she edited the women's page of the newspaper, Ukrainian Voice (Ukrainskyi holos). She was the author of the best-selling Ukrainian book published in Canada, Traditional Ukrainian Cookery (1957; 11th edition, 1980). She received the Order of Canada in 1989. She died on 22 April 2002.
