Fonds consists of oral history interviews of past and present workers at General Motors of Canada in Oshawa, Ontario, who are associated with Local 222, United Automobile Workers. Condé and Beveridge conducted the interviews as research for a photo exhibition.

Textual records consist of 25 edited transcriptions of selected interviews: Ethel Thomson and Vi Pilkey; Ethel Thomson; Mary Turner; Maureen Shorten; Bev McCloskey and Bill Harding; Elsie Karn; Harry Benson, W. Grant, Ted Nichols, Jack Johnson, Doug Clark and Nip Tucker; Annie Opersna; George Day and Rose Day; Nip Tucker; Alton Smith; Joe Salsberg; Jack Johnson and Lois Johnson; George Burt; Jim Tester; Cliff Pilkey; Bill Rutherford; Dennis Tyce; Art Shultz; Abe Taylor; Murray Strong; Olive Farnell and Doug Clark; Bill Imerson and Ivy Imerson; Harold Oley; and Harry Benson.

Photographic material consists of: "Oshawa, a history of local 222, United Autoworkers of America, CLC (Canadian Labour Congress)", a photographic fictional reconstruction based on the oral history collected on tape for this project. Also included are two photo sequences relating to women and labour, one sequence entitled "A Work in Progress" pertaining to the changing material and ideological roles of women in the twentieth century (produced in 1980), the other sequence entitled "Making Up the Difference" pertaining to females members of Local 222, United Autoworkers, Oshawa, Ontario (produced in 1983). Photographs are by Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge. Each image is a highly-manipulated composite made by combining transparencies, masking, and re-photographing the collages. The final product is a set of Cibachrome prints creating a "comic strip" style narrative with a labour message.

Condé, Carole, 1940- : Carole Condé, contemporary photographer. Condé attended Bedford College and from 1991 to 1994 the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design. Carole Condé along with Karl Beveridge are interested in labour history. Their photographs attempt to reconstruct history from the workers' point of view. Their method combines observations and interviews with workers in-situ. Trade unions and community organizations have collaborated with Condé and Beveridge during the creation of their work. They have been active in the Mayworks Festival and the Workers Heritage Centre in Ontario.

In the past three decades, over fifty solo exhibitions of Condé and Beveridge's work have been presented at major museums and art spaces on four continents, including: the Institute of Contemporary Art (London, UK); Museum Folkswang (Germany); George Meany Centre (Washington); Dazibao Gallery (Montreal); Centro Cultural Recoleta (Buenos Aires); Art Gallery of Edmonton; and the Australian Centre for Photography (Sydney).

Equally, and congruent with the artists' commitment to accessibility, their work has been displayed in a host of non-art and public settings, such as union halls, billboards, bus shelters and bookworks. The artists continue to work and live in Toronto.
