This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accessions. Series consists of records created by the Communications Branch of Energy, Mines and Resources and are comprised of press releases and speeches by EMR personnel for the period from 1950 to 1987. The material covers the period when the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys was in existence (1949-1966), through to the creation of EMR in 1966, and into the modern era. The public activities of the Mines Branch, the Geological Survey of Canada, Surveys and Mapping Branch, Water Resources Branch, and other EMR branches are described in documents that introduced and highlighted new departmental operations and initiatives. The series also includes press releases and speeches for the period 1988 to 1990. The speech material was delivered by the Minister, Minister of State, Ministers of other departments, the prime minister and by Senior Officials of EMR. The press releases announced new programs, agreements reached, technical developments, safety tips and other news.
