Series consists of project files created and/or maintained by the Public Projects Branch of the former Department of Reconstruction and Supply. Responsibilties of the Public Projects Branch were transferred to the Special Projects Branch on January 18, 1950 as part of a re-alignment of departmental responsibilities.

The files relate to construction work on the Chambly Canal, Quebec; the Chignecto Canal Scheme, Nova Scotia; the Canso Ferry Project, Nova Scotia; the Alaska Highway; the Trans-Canada Highway; the renovation of the National Museum Building; and the P.F.R.A., St. Mary's Milk River Project.
