Collection consists of World War II propoganda films inspired by John Grierson and produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Documentaries in this collection touch upon heroic aspects of civilian and military life in Canada and in Allied countries in wartime. In contrast, the nefarious activities of German and Japanese military men are examined and condemned. Among the many titles are Battle of the harvests, Left of the line, Target Berlin, and Fighting freighters.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences : The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a professional honorary organization composed of motion picture craftsmen and artists. It was founded in May 1927 as a non-profit corporation chartered under the laws of California. The purpose of the organization is to advance the arts and sciences of motion pictures; foster cooperation among creative leaders for cultural educational and technological progress; recognize outstanding achievements; cooperate on technical research and improvement of methods and equipment; provide a common forum and meeting ground for various branches and crafts; represent the viewpoint of actual creators of the motion picture; and foster educational activities between the professional community and the public at large. It had 36 original members including Douglas Fairbanks, who served as its first president. Other presidents have included Frank Capra, Bette Davis, Walter Wagner and Gregory Peck. Membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is by invitation. The Academy holds the annual Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars). The Academy is located in Beverly Hills, California. Its library and film archives moved to a separate facility in 1988 at La Cienega Park and became the Center for Motion Picture Study.
