Fonds consists of sound recordings of news and current affairs programming produced by Newsradio. Included are news specials, such as the proceedings of the 1976 Progressive Conservative leadership convention, and assorted feature stories.

Newsradio : Newsradio Limited was a radio news agency based in Toronto, Ontario that served several private stations in Canada. The enterprise operated a print and radio service for broadcasters, more specifically 25 AM stations and close to 20 FM stations, with at least one in each province. Station CKEY in Toronto was its Canadian centre while the American CBS network provided international news bulletins. Newsradio also provided service to CHIN ethnic radio in Toronto. CKEY Limited owned 80% of Newsradio, and Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) the remaining 20%. Newsradio was active circa 1976 to 1980. Roberts, Avril D. General note:

As of 26 May 26 1976, the Sound Archives section of the Public Archives of Canada began acquiring the complete service of audio transmissions offered by Newsradio to its member stations. Material in this collection was acquired via a direct telephone line to the Newsradio bureau offices in Ottawa, Ontario. As of 28 August 1980 the recording of the Newsradio feed was discontinued and the recording of Standard Broadcasting News was begun.
