Canadian Industries Limited : Canadian Industries Limited (CIL) was established in 1927. The company, however, dates back to 1877 with Lammot du Pont's investment in the Canadian explosives company Hamilton Powder. In 1911 several smaller Canadian explosives and chemical companies amalgamated to form Canadian Explosives Limited (CXL). Thereafter, the company adopted three Canadian subsidiaries of E.I. du Pont De Nemours & Company, and merged with the British chemical company, Imperial Chemical Industries, Limited (ICI). In 1927 the firm was renamed Canadian Industries Limited. CIL continued to grow throughout the Great Depression and the Second World War. However, in 1954, as the result of antitrust suit taken against E.I. du Pont De Nemours and ICI, the shareholders were forced to separate their interests in the Canadian company. On 1 July 1954 the division of the assets and business of CIL became effective. The DuPont subsidiary became Du Pont of Canada Limited and the Canadian subsidiary of ICI kept the name Canadian Industries Limited. The company was later renamed ICI Canada Limited. Custodial history:

The film Canadian Industries Limited was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975. The CFI received the material from Canadian Industries in 1966. The rest of the collection was received by the National Archives in 1975.
