These two documentary films were received on deposit in 1973 from the Collège de Lévis. In 2011 the city of Lévis acquired the collection of Collège de Lévis, comprising the fonds Joseph-Elzéar Bernier to which these two documentary films belong. In 2022 the city of Lévis decided to not take back the orginal film of "Captain Bernier's Arctic Expedition", because of the specialized storage and equipment required for its preservation.

The film "Land of the Midnight Sun" was originally on 3 reels of nitrate (N-1538 to N-1540). These reels were destroyed by LAC in 1983 as a safety precaution. The film was copied to safety stock and subsequently digitized.
The film "Captain Bernier's Arctic Expedition" was received originally on a 1 reel of 16mm film (7301-0699). LAC has subsequently digitized the film but the original is still in storage.
