Musée Acadien : The Musée acadien (Acadian Museum) was founded by Father Camille Lefebvre in 1886, making it one of the oldest museums in Canada. Originally located at Joseph's College in Memramcook, N.B., the Museum moved to its current location, the Clément-Cormier Pavillion at the Université de Moncton, Moncton campus, in 1980. The Museum's original mandate "to collect and preserve artefacts related to Acadian history and material culture" is one that continues today. Lefebvre established the Museum with the goal to accumulate a collection that would illustrate and reflect the history of the Acadian people and traditional Acadian life. As a result, the collection includes objects representing agriculture, fishing, furniture, cooking, costumes and textiles, carpentry, blacksmithing, shoemaking, religion, education, politics, photography, toys, medicine, folk art, and Evangeline pieces. In addition, the Museum has collected various items that were of general interest or were objects of curiosity. Today, the Musée acadien's collection numbers over 35,000 artefacts. "Museum Profile."
