Fonds consists of home movies, most of which are believed to have been filmed by Brigadier Robert Bruce Stephen Reford (1895-1972). Subjects depicted include the Irish Guard while it was stationed in Cairo between 1936 and 1938, the Irish Guards in training and playing sports at Aldershot, other scenes of the Irish Guards, the Reford family skiing in Switzerland and in Montreal, the Reford family property at Cariboo Lake south of Rimouski, Quebec, Reford family fishing trips, vacation scenes in France, Spain, Denmark and other European locations, the Reford family at Chippinghurst Manor in England, the Reford family sailing and horseback riding, the Reford children at play at their various homes in England, an outdoor hockey game in Switzerland, and a diving competition. Other footage includes ceremonies on the occasion of the death of King George V, scenes of London, England, the jubilee of King George V. One of the films of the Irish Guards is intercut with newsreel footage from Gaumont British News.

Reford, Robert Bruce Stephen : Robert Bruce Stephen Reford was born in Montreal on 16 March 1895 to Robert Wilson Reford and Elsie Stephen Meighen. He was educated in England at Rugby and Oxford University. When the First World War broke out, he enlisted in Canada with the King Edward's Horse. In December 1914 he received a commission in the Sherwood Foresters and joined the Regiment's 11th Service Battalion at Aldershot. He went overseas with the battalion in August 1915 and served in France until he transferred to the Irish Guards in March 1916. From then until the war ended he served as a Regimental Officer with the 1st Battalion Overseas and then the 3rd Reserve Battalion. He was wounded in October 1917 and received the Military Cross in 1918 for conspicuous gallantry. After the war, he continued his career in the British Regular Army. In 1919 and 1920 he served as aide-de-camp to Field Marshal Lord French, Viceroy of Ireland and Colonel of the Regiment. In 1920 he married Evelyn Margaret Robinson MacInnes. They had three children, Robert William Reford, Maryon Elsie Margaret Reford and Michael Stephen Reford. Bruce Reford served as Regimental Officer in the Irish Guard until August 1938, with two periods as Regimental Adjutant. In July 1936 he was appointed to the command of the 1st Battalion shortly before it sailed for Egypt. In August 1938 he became Regimental Lieutenant Colonel. When the Second World War broke out he took command of a London Infantry Brigade. In February 1940 he was appointed Officer Commanding General Headquarters Troops at the headquarters of John Vereker, Lord Gort. His later posts included duties in the War Office. Among his other interests were skiing and yachting. He retired back to Canada and died there on 4 November 1972.
