National Library of Australia : In 1901 a Commonwealth Parliamentary Library was established to serve the newly formed Federal Parliament of Australia. This Library eventually evolved into the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library and the National Library of Australia. During the early period of its history the foundations were laid for the diverse range of collections held by the Library. The National Library of Australia, keeper of public and private records, today houses a collection comprised of books and magazines, paintings, drawings and prints, manuscripts, photographs, maps, aerial photographs, music scores, and oral history recordings.
