Collection consists of various films documenting the way of life and history of Newfoundland and Labrardor. Included is footage of cod fishing, the 1939 royal visit to Newfoundland, the formation of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and other World War I activity, the Florizel run aground in 1919, the Commission of Government in 1934, a visit by Governor General Massey and moose trapping.

Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Archives : In 1956 a group of faculty members from Memorial University of Newfoundland recognized the need for a single repository to house government and private records of the province. The aim of their work was to gather and arrange as many government records, manuscripts, photographs,mmaps, and other items as possible, catalogue the records and transfer them to a permanent archives to be maintained by the Provincial Government. Their work resulted in the establishment of the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador (PANL) in 1959, based on legislation of the Historic Objects, Sites and Records Act. Today PANL is mandated, through the Archives Act 1983, "to preserve those records of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador which are deemed to have enduring legal, fiscal, evidential or research value".
