Fonds consists of films originally belonging to or filmed by George Black, and dating from the late 1930s to the late 1950s. Approximately half of these films relate to the Yukon Territories. The Yukon scenes depict people, communities, social activities, architecture, mining activity, hunting and fishing expeditions, George and Martha Black, flowers and plants, animals, wildlife, sternwheelers in operation, Alaska Highway ceremonies, and scenery. Also included are films depicting many of George Black's trips outside the Yukon Territories, including various communities across Canada in addition to several U.S. cities, Mexico, and Bermuda. The Canadian scenes document a trip by train across the prairies, architecture, monuments, parks, flowers, birds, parades, and social events in Victoria, Ottawa, Vancouver, Quebec City, and Montreal. Also included are scenes of the Calgary Stampede, an ice-skating performance by Barbara Anne Scott, and views of Black's Vancouver and Ottawa homes. Many of what are designated separate films are actually 50 foot segments spliced together by Roy Minter and Ken Jubenvill. Some of the footage has been edited and some duplicated in several of the reels.

Fonds also includes The White Pass story (1957-1958 ), a silent colour movie filmed by Dorwin Baird on a north trip. The film depicts the transportation of freight from Vancouver to Whitehorse by means of White Pass and Yukon Route's container system.

Minter, Roy, 1916- : Roy Minter, author, filmmaker and historian, was born in 1916. He moved to the Yukon in 1955 with the Canadian Army, and between 1957 and 1973 served as Vice-President of White Pass. He was co-founder of the Yukon Foundation and member of Variety Internationals, the Yukon Transportation Museum, the Yukon Historical and Museums Association and the Yukon Conservation Society. Minter's filmography includes Brave New North, and Take Four Giant Steps. His book, The White Pass-Gateway To The Klondike, was published in 1987. Minter received the 1986 Commissioner's Award for Service in the Yukon, and the 1988 Yukon Heritage Award. In 1991 he was appointed to the Order of Canada. Minter died in 1996 at the age of 80. Black, George, 1873-1965 : George Black, lawyer, politician, commissioner of the Yukon Territory, MP, was born 10 April 1873 in Woodstock, New Brunswick. He was educated in Richibucto and Fredericton, and was called to the New Brunswick Bar in 1896. In 1898 he joined the rush to the Klondike where he spent two years mining on Livingston Creek. He began practising law in Dawson and Whitehorse in 1900. In 1904 he married Martha Louise Black (née Munger). Thereafter, Black became active in politics, representing the Klondike in the Yukon Council from 1905 to 1911. In 1909 he unsuccessfully contested the Yukon seat in Parliament. Between 1912 and 1918 Black served as Commissioner of the Yukon Territories. He resigned from this position in 1916 in order to join the war effort. Captain Black enlisted 275 men to form the Yukon Infantry Company. He was wounded in action in 1918, and returned to the Yukon at the war's end. Between 1921 and 1935 Black held the Yukon seat in Parliament. He resigned this position in 1935 due to ill health, but returned in 1940, and 1944. In 1949 he resumed his law practice in Dawson City.
