Abitibi Paper Company : Abitibi Pulp and Paper Company Ltd. was founded in 1912. In 1914 the company was incorporated as Abitibi Power & Paper Company. It acquired extensive timber, waterpower and mineral rights and became Abitibi Paper Company Ltd. in 1965. It became Abitibi-Price Inc. in 1979 after acquiring controlling interest in The Price Company Ltd. in 1974. In 1992 Abitibi was put in the hands of a consortium of banks. In 1994 the banks divested themselves of Abitibi through a share offering. In May of 1997, Abitibi-Price and Stone Consolidated merged to form Abitibi Consolidated Inc.

General note:

Received in 1973 and 1974 from Abitibi Paper Company.

Custodial history:

Some of this collection was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975. This material was deposited at the CFI in 1973. The National Archives received the rest of the material in 1974 from Abitibi Paper.
