Visnews Ltd : Visnews was an international news and television agency founded in London, England in 1957. Its mandate was to produce a comprehensive and unbiased international news. To achieve this Visnews shot new material and drew on old library footage dating back to 1896. The original partners in this enterprise were the BBC, the Rank Organization, The Australian Broadcasting Commission and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1968 Rank withdrew, but by then Reuters has become a shareholder as had the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. By 1966 there were a hundred subscribers in sixty-five countries taking news material regularly from Visnews. By the late 1970s there were over two hundred subscribers in about one hundred countries. In the early 1990s Reuters bought out the other partners and Visnews became Reuters Television. Visnews was fully integrated with Reuters in 2001.
