Fonds consists of sound recordings of radio programs featuring an audition by Robert Van Dine for the CBC Radio International service, performing the music of Canadian composer Robert Fleming, as well as a performance of the Unemployment Insurance Commission Choir directed by Van Dine.

Van Dine, Robert : Robert Van Dine (fl. 1940-1950), musical and chorus director, was one of the best known musical directors in Ottawa. He was born on 7 July 1917 in Frederiction, New Brunswick to Robert B. Van Dine and Julia Pugh Van Dine and died in Ottawa, Ontario on 15 June 2005. He left Fredericton in the 1930s to study music. Van Dine studied at the Toronto Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School of Music in New York, the Royal College of Music in London, England, and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. He performed in many concerts and radio recitals, and for more than twenty years was a church and oratorio soloist. He was musical director of many groups including the Tudor Singers, Van Dine Singers, the Orpheus Society, the Savoy Society of Ottawa, R.A. Society, Ottawa Choral Society, Concordia Male Choir and Ottawa Little Theatre, and had a number of leading roles in Gilbert and Sullivan productions and in Children's Theatre. In addition to his career in music, Robert Van Dine was a public servant, working for the British High Commission during the Second World War and then for the Unemployment Insurance Commission until he retired in 1974.
