Fonds consists of several news clips from CHCH Television in Hamilton including the first part of an evening news broacast read by Jack Burghardt; the first part of a morning broadcast read by an unidentified announcer; and part of a person-in-the-street interview by Harvey Kirck with the mayor of Hamilton and a vendor at the market in Hamilton.

Also consists of CAN PRO 1980 submissions from CHCH-TV and the program WHERE'S FLIGHT 314.

CHCH-TV (Television station : Hamilton, Ontario) : CHCH-TV Hamilton signed on the air 1 June 1954 as a licencee of Niagara Television Ltd., a consortium consisting of Maple Leaf Broadcasting (CHML), Wentworth Broadcasting (CKOC) and Southam Press (Hamilton Spectator). Originally aligned with the CBC Network, the CHCH-TV disaffiliated from CBC in October 1961. CHCH became Canada's first English language, independent television station. In 1970 control of CHCH was purchased by Selkirk Communications Ltd. Thereafter, CHCH became the dominant TV station in the Toronto/Hamilton area. On 18 September 1989, the CRTC approved the takeover of Selkirk Communications (including CHCH) by Maclean-Hunter Ltd, and in 1992 Western International Communications Ltd. (WIC) purchased CHCH-TV from Maclean Hunter, officially taking control of CHCH on 1 January 1994. On 17 February 1997, CHCH-TV became known as ON-TV. In July 2000 the CRTC announced the approval of the purchase of WIC Television by CanWest Global, which included CHCH TV Hamilton. CanWest Global committed to operate CHCH-TV as a local independent station, not as part of the Global Television Network. On 2 December 2001 ON-TV was re-branded as CH-TV. McGuire, Reg.
