Canada. Dept. of Trade and Commerce. Economics Branch : A separate Economics Division was created in 1933 to continuously review general business conditions in Canada, to study new influences affecting the whole economy or merely individual industries or regions, and to study special problems. In 1948 the Economic Research Board of the Department of Reconstruction and Supply was incorporated into Trade and Commerce. The Economic Research Branch, renamed the Economic Research and Development Branch (1948-1951), consisted of three divisions: the Economic Research Division which produced economic forecasts for the domestic economy through the Interdepartmental Committee on Economic Forecasting; the Commercial Relations and Foreign Tariffs Division; and the Industrial Development Division which provided information and assistance to firms setting up branch plants in Canada. In 1957, a new Energy Studies Branch continued and expanded work relating to energy sources that had previously been performed in the Economics Branch (1952-1969). RG20 General Inventory
