This fonds consists of selections from the John Stuart Blackie papers held by the National Library and Scotland - particularly correspondence from Sir Daniel Wilson, 1855 to 1890, Sir A. Bannerman, George Alexander and Donald Ross.

There are 3 parts to the records, as noted in the Table of Contents.

1. (MS 2621 ff. 125-128, 134) Letters of Sir A. Bannerman and George Alexander

Sir Alexander Bannerman (1788-1864) was a British merchant and politican from Aberdeen who also served as MP for the city from 1832 to 1840.

2. (MS 2626 ff. 132 and 17) Letters, Donald Ross and D.Wilson

Donald Ross was a merchant in Halifax. He wrote to Professor Blackie thanking him for his championship of Gaelic literature and declaring that he was a native of Sutherland and was 14 before he could speak English.

3. (MS 2624 ff. 49; MS2625 ff. 158, 270; MS2627 f. 192; MS2629 f. 164; MS 2631 f. 146) Letters of Sir Daniel Wilson.

Sir Daniel Wilson (1816-1892) was a Scottish-born Canadian scientist, author and educator. He was a Professor of History and English at University College (University of Toronto), where he served as President from 1880 to 1892. He also served as President of the federated University of Toronto from 1890 to 1892.
