These records were created and maintained by the Canada Labour Relations Board (CLRB). The CLRB, established in 1972, was a quasi-judicial body with statutory and regulatory powers pertaining to the administration of Part I of the Canadian Labour Code dealing with industrial relations. It became the Canada Industrial Relations Board in 1999. The case files pertain to applications for review, or amendment of board orders (530), applications for certification of bargaining agents (555), applications for changes in terms and conditions of employment (556), applications for revocation of bargaining rights (565, 566, 570), applications for successor rights (580), applications for declaratation of sale of business (585), determinations of the existence of collective agreements (610), technological change (630), religious objection to the payment of union dues (660), applications for declaration of illegal strike or walkout (725), complaints alleging violations of the Canada Labour Code, Part I (745), filing of Board orders in Federal Court (760), applications for access to employer's premises (800) and complaints alleging violation of Canada Labour Code, Part II (Occupational Safety and Health) and references to the Board of Officer's safety reports (950). Numbers in brackets pertain to the file subject categories. Each case file contains correspondence pertaining to the issue at hand, in additional to supporting documents (often legal opinions). The records are arranged numerically. Boxes 43-44 contain back-up tapes of the central registry.
This accession contains two boxes of magnetic central registry back-up tapes.
