Interview by Jim Green of Dorothy Sauras, former secretary at the Candian Seamen's Union (CSU) office in Montreal beginning in 1944 and the wife of Conrad Sauras, a member of the National Executive of the CSU. Sauras talks about her duties as the CSU secretary which included bookkeeping, dispatching, letter writing, banking and organizing strikes. She also talks about the procedures for assigning seamen on ships and how CSU seamen would voluntarily donate funds to their needy fellow seamen. Sauras describes her previous work in the trade union movement during the late 1930s and early 1940s, but insists that the CSU was an exceptional union - "not like the others". Other topics include a description of the Montreal CSU office and the CSU seamen who would escort strikebreakers to the office and lecture them on respecting union ships. Throughout the interview, Sauras talks about her recollections of many prominent CSU members such as Dewar "Fergie" Ferguson, Pat Sullivan, Gerry McManus and her husband, Conrad Sauras.
