Tellier and Lowe talk about the widespread unemployment during the Depression and the many government relief camps across the country. Also discussed are the many associations and unions for the unemployed that emerged to press for job creation and better relief programs through such activites as the "On-to-Ottawa-Trek". Focusing on seamen and longshoremen, the interviewees describe the "Battle of Ballantyne Bridge" in 1935 in Vancouver when the waterfront trade unionists who agitated for union hiring halls were tear-gased and attacked by police injuring several - repression that was a severe setback to the trade union movement on the West Coast.Language:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
