Sauras begins with her own background as a CSU member and cook on the Great Lakes boats - one of the few female CSU members. Sauras continues with her former husband's background, namely, his childhood in Spain, his work in Mexico and Cuba, his work in Canada as a ship's cook and his activities in the CSU. She recalls his achievements in uniting the English and French-speaking CSU members and his efforts to improve the seamen's living conditions aboard ship. Other details of their life include Conrad Sauras' learning English and the four other languages he spoke, the difficult times when they were destitute during CSU strikes, his incarceration and his prolonged stay in a sanitorium near Montreal to recuperate from lung disease.Language:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
