Sub-series consists of files documenting the Department of Transport or its predecessor departments interaction and involvement in northern exploration. The files were placed in the 1654 file block of the Transport central registry. Subjects include the Australian-American-Canadian Trans-Atlantic expedition, British North Pole Expedition, British Transarctic Expedition, British Antarctic expedition, MacGregor Arctic expedition, expedition to the Beaufort Sea, Wrangel Island, Russian expeditions into the Arctic, Knud Rasmussen's Thule expedition, the disposition of arctic relics, Umberto Nobile's expedition to the North Pole, explorations of the S.S. Neptune, and other various polar expeditions.
