Fonds consists of photographs depicting views and street scenes in and around Vladivostok, Russia, photographed by Hugh R.W. Allan, a member of the Canadian Siberian Expeditionary Force.

Biography/Administrative history:

Allan, Hugh R. W : Hugh R.W. Allan worked in the British Columbia Police Force and was a member of the reserve Artillery unit in Victoria, B.C. prior to his service in WWI. Upon the beginning of WWI, Allan was transferred to Vladivostok, Russia, where he worked as a member of the Canadian Siberian Expeditionary Force. Upon his return from Russia he served with the Reserve R.C.A.S.C. (The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps Association) until September 1939 at which time he went to the General Staff. There he became Colonel Administration Pacific Command. Toward the end of WWII he was awarded the Order of British Empire (O.B.E.). Allan's other interests included photography.
