This sub-series consists of manuscripts and typescripts and other material documenting Réshard Gool's non-fiction writing, with one sub-sub-series on Conferences.
Among the material in the sub-series are Gool's manuscripts for his M.A. thesis entitled 'An Investigation of the Nature of Politics Through the Novel' (McMaster University, October 1966) and manuscript drafts of his Ph.D. dissertation entitled 'The Politics of James Bond' (University of Toronto [1969]); as well as Gool's National Student Debating Tournament Standing Orders and notes 1958; 'Against Depersonalisation' n.d. (under the pseudonym, Anthony Watson); 'Constitution for Basutoland' 1958; and manuscripts for an article on 'Politics and Morality' [ca. 1963] written while attending the University of Wales - Swansea.
There are also Gool's manuscript and published book reviews of other writers' works, arranged chronologically n.d., 1960-1985. Gool's reviews (plus a series of annotated menus) of several P.E.I. and other Maritime restaurants for the publication 'Where to Eat in Canada' n.d.,1978 also form part of this sub-series.
This sub-series also contains briefs, lectures/talks and essays written and delivered by Gool, and in some cases later published during Gool's career. They include: a brief for the P.E.I. Civil Liberties Association on Photo-Licences n.d.; 'The Voice of Money' 1964; 'The Politics of Gatsby' - lecture delivered to Canadian Council of Teachers of English conference at U.P.E.I. 1971; 'Are There Any Canadian Librarians?' 1972; 'Fatal Swimmers' - a contrast between Tolstoy and Pasternak - paper presentedto the Canadian Humanities Association 1973; 'Russia and the Balkans (1870-1876)' - a case study towards a mixed approach to international politics n.d. [ca. 1973]; 'The Political Implications of Jean Rhys'; 'Wide Sargasso Sea' - paper delivered to the Canadian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies 1978 as well as a lecture delivered to the Joint Politics and Sociology seminar at the University of Warwick, England 1980; 'Marginalia' - article on Maritime Art 1978; 'Land and Sea - viewpoints of Prince Edward Island' 1981; a brief entitled 'An Atlantic Alternative' n.d. [1981] submitted to the Federal Cultural Review Committee; an article entitled 'Prince Edward Island: Militant Isle-lit' published in 'The Fiddlehead' 1982; and a eulogy to Alan Paton entitled 'A Last Gentleman' 1988. Also includes C.B.C. Radio's 'Ideas' program schedule of Gool's talks on 'Politics and Imagination' 1970; files containing 'extracurricular' lecture notes n.d.; and two issues of 'The Eye, a magazine for thoughtful expression, the aim of which is to seek the Truth' March and April 1972, edited by Stan Dalton and Réshard Gool.
