This series includes Gool's manuscript notebooks, diaries, pocket notebooks and diary pages kept during his student days at the University College of St. David (Lampeter) 1958-1959, the University of Wales (Swansea) 1960-1963, McMaster University 1964-1965 and the University of Toronto 1967-1969, as well as during his years of teaching at the University of Prince Edward Island n.d., 1970-1988.

Gool's manuscript notebooks contain a mixture of literary ideas, chapter outlines for early versions of his novels, plots for stories and plays, film and book reviews, and poetry. In some cases both creative and non-fiction notes and observations appear in the same notebooks and the dates of entries are not consecutive. Gool's notebooks also contain school course work notes and debating arguments, such as notes related to a debate on 'The Case for Nuclear Disarmament' ca. 1960s.
