L'une des origines des terribles conflagrations qui dévastent nos forêts est ici mise en évidence. Le feu de camp mal préparé ou mal éteint. Deux jeunes filles, en excursion de forêt, s'éloignent du camp, après quelques coups de semelles au feu déjà commencé, pour explorer la flore et la faune des bois. À leur retour, le feu qui s'est ranimé sous les brindilles sèches a déjà pris les proportions d'un brasier menaçant. Gardant leur sang-froid, elles s'empressent, aves des outils de fortune consistant en une poêle à frire et une grosse cuiller, de faire une tranchée en bordure du feu. C'est un désastre pour les jeunes filles qui déplorent la perte de leurs effets personnels, mais leur courage a finalement raison des flammes et la catastrophe est évitée. Quelques conseils sont donnés sur la façon de constuire et éteindre un feu de camp. Le chasseur prudent qui écrase bien sa cigarette, qui enfonce son allumette dans le sol, n'aura pas le remords d'avoir causé la destruction de la forêt qui lui procure son plaisir. <20mn>
