Film about about silver mining operations in the district of Cobalt, Ontario. Production of silver from 1903 to 1918 was nearly 300 million ounces and was worth $170,000,000. This film includes footage of: a large silver mine showing buildings, piles of earth, conveyors, and some labour activities; a graphic map of Northern Ontario showing a cirle around the Cobalt area, known for its high grade silver ore, containing cobalt, arsenic, and nickel; miners getting into an elevator for the 400 foot descent and miners alighting from the elevator at this level; shots of drilling; a man "spitting" blasting fuses (lighting them) and the fuses smouldering; the resultant rock rubble and miners returning to the blasting area; chipping the loose rock after blasting; miners point to the rich veins of the mine; a man drilling; a miner erecting timber supports for the broken veins; rail car being loaded with mineral rock and the car being pushed away towards a tunnel; electric engine pulling loaded cars in the tunnel; ore being elevated from the mine shaft to the surface and being crushed outside the shaft, being loaded onto cable cars and transported to the mill storage bins; man loading sacks of ore from a conveyor belt; low-grade ore being collected and moved in carts along tracks to be crushed; ore being crushed and course materials being removed; ore moved to classifiers and to tube mills; ore being ground into slime in tube mills; machinery as slime is cyanided in tanks; shots of solution; solution passing through filter process; concentrate removed from the presses; a man shovels concentrate into bags to be placed in furnace; molted silver is ladled into moulds; silver bars are dumped out of the moulds; and silver bars are loaded onto a wagon which a worker pulls away to store in a vault.
